Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm - Liebe, D-Mark und Tod

On 28 August 2025, from 7 to 10 pm, we invite you to a film screening and discussion.

The documentary "Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm - Liebe, D-Mark und Tod" (Love, Deutschmark and Death, 2022) by Cem Kaya tells the unique story of the music culture of Turkish immigrants, their children and grandchildren in Germany – through archival footage and interviews. Film and TV producer Stefan Kauertz, who grew up in Ratingen-West, produced the film with his company “Filme Five.” The musician Tachi appears in the film, talking about the founding of the hip-hop group “Fresh Familee” in Ratingen-West. After the screening, both will speak with Anne Schülke and Sebastian Barteleit, head of the Ratingen City Archive, about the importance of remembering, mourning and celebrating together – and from multiple perspectives.

You are warmly invited to watch the film and take part in the public discussion.

The evening is also a call to contribute material to the Ratingen City Archive. More information are available here.

In August, Tachi and Anne will also offer the workshop Bilder sprechen / Speaking Images, which you can register for via the VHS Ratingen website. Registration opens on July 9.

Attendance at the event and the workshop is free of charge.

These events are held in cooperation with VHS Ratingen and the Ratingen City Archive, the municipal seniors’ centre and the municipal youth centre in Ratingen-West, and are financially supported by the Kultur- und Sozialstiftung of Provinzial Rheinland and the InfRaWest Fund.
